About Us

Hi, I’m Richard Woodling and I was born in 1951 in Nagoya, Japan. That happened because my dad was stationed there in the Army Air Corps as part of the occupation forces after WWII. Prior to that he served in the eighth Air Force in England as a copilot of a B-17 flying fortress under General Curtis Lemay. Having this early experience actually helped me to become what I am today.

Because of his service in the Air Corps during the war and his continued service in the Strategic Air Command afterwards, we traveled all over the world. Being an Air Force brat, I never lived anywhere very long. I hated it and to this day the thought of moving anywhere is loathesome. When my dad finally retired in 1961 I was 10 years old. We left Lincoln Nebraska and moved to Denton, Texas, a nice little college town north of Dallas. It was only then that I was able to put down roots and make some lasting friends. In school I was a very curious and was always interested in finding out the truth about things. This habit has stayed with me to this day. This was also one of the things that drew me to starting Remarkable Books with Carol.

Early on I was also drawn towards both the arts and sciences. I have always been fascinated with just about everything scientific, especially astronomy. I also had a creative streak that led me into studying music and art and eventually into the life as a professional musician. All of these skills and my insatiable curiosity made me a natural at helping put Remarkable Books together.

And I'm Carol Highland Nichols. Although I have a BSc degree in journalism from the University of Tulsa, I never got around to using it much until about 20 years ago. In my early years, I worked in a wide variety of fields – from office reception, secretarial, and bookkeeping, to door-to-door selling of everything from jewelry, make-up, vacuum cleaners and burial plots. Although I did not realize it at the time, in mid-life I wound up joining my ancestors' vocation in ready-to-wear retail sales and management, followed by a few years' stint in advertising and Public Relations for a motel chain. In 1991 my “work” career was completed when I became a city-raised newcomer to happy housewifery and country living about 30 miles south of Forth Worth, Texas, complete with chickens, guineas, gardens, goats and geese (and snakes and 'possums and 'coons, if you want to count them too).

Nearly twenty-five years ago or so, amidst fresh-farm living (which I love), a friend asked me to edit a book for him, and over the next several years, through word-of-mouth, moving from one project to the next, I finally stumbled upon what I wanted to do when I grew up. One day I began to apply my editing skills to collections of informational material I had gathered over the years, and voila! I am blessed by the LORD to have lived to see some of the fruits of this labor now made available to you on this website.

It is my sincere hope that you enjoy our selections as much as we have enjoyed putting them together for you. If you have any comments, suggestions or thoughts you'd like to share, don't hesitate to contact us.

At Remarkable Books we are constantly working to upgrade and add unique and hard to find one-of-a-kind titles every day.

We strive to provide listings both old and new, by going through a strenuous 2-step process to produce or reproduce these masterpieces for you. First the text is completely done (or redone) and formatted (or reformatted) in an appropriate modern yet simple style that is easy to read and spend time with.

Once that is finished a full color custom laminated cover is produced for each book.

In keeping with today's computerized book-selling trend, when you order your book, it is printed for you on demand – you can get as many quality copies as you need or as few as one. Your purchase price includes shipping (which generally takes only 2 to 3 days).

The best part is that you can receive your Remarkable Books, add them to your personal collection of favorites, and enjoy them at your leisure for a long time to come.

Please check back with us often to discover our new listings. Also, if you have a title you are looking for, let us know and we will do our best to help you find it. And thanks for shopping with us!!!
